i9 Sports Soccer Curriculum by Age:
Pee Wee (ages 3-4) - At this age, playing soccer on a team is a new skill and we strive to make the experience fun for all, building confidence along the way. Our goal is to help our youngest players begin to understand the most important and fundamental soccer concepts such as: a) Gaining confidence to kick the ball during practices and games b) Kicking the ball with proper footing c) Using your feet, not your hands, to control the ball d) Passing and receiving e) Aiming and shooting at the correct goal
Players participate in a 20-30 minute practice, followed by a 30-40 minute game with another team. During the game, kids take turns bringing the ball up the field, playing offense/defense, and serving as goalie. Rotating through these positions help children learn more about how the game of soccer is a team sport. Our paid i9 instructors are readily available to work with trained volunteer parents at any time to offer support, practice suggestions, and run drills if needed.
By the end of the season, pee wee players have improved foot-work and are much braver and more confident to kick the soccer ball. But most importantly, players in the Pee Wee Division learn the basics about the game of soccer and how fun it is to be part of a soccer team. Youth (ages 5-7) - At this age level, kids begin to play in more depth and our coaches are able to focus on more sophisticated soccer skill development. Kids in this age group have a better grasp of the basics of soccer, so more time is spent to deepen knowledge and sharpen form. In this division, we focus on teaching the following:
a) Kicking the ball with proper footing b) Passing and receiving the ball with good form c) The roles of offense and defense – In this division we play with 3 offense, 2 defense, and a goalie d) Performing throw-ins and sidekicks
Players participate in a 30-45 minute practice, followed by a 45-60 minute game with another team. During the game, kids take turns with their roles on the field while also serving as goalie. This division begins introducing the roles of offense and defense, as well. Our paid i9 instructors are readily available to work with trained volunteer parents at any time to offer support, practice suggestions, and run drills if needed.
By the end of the season, youth players have a better understanding of the game of soccer. Children in the Youth Division also develop a basic understanding of soccer positions, throw ins, sidekicks, rules, and the roles of offensive and defensive play.
Junior (ages 8-10) – Kids in this age group have a better grasp of the game of soccer, so more time is spent on proper terminology, sharpening form, and the strategies of offense and defense. Depending on the divisions, we have combined instructional practices or individual team practices where coaches work through basic to advanced drills. In this division, we focus on teaching the following:
a) Dribbling and shooting skills b) Passing strategies c) Goal kicks, sidekicks, and throw-ins d) Understanding the responsibilities of the offensive and defensive sides of the field e) Goaltending
Players participate in a 30-45 minute practice, followed by a 45-60 minute game with another team. During the game, kids take turns playing different positions on offense, as well as defense, and serving as goalie. Our paid i9 instructors are readily available to work with trained volunteer parents at any time to offer support, practice suggestions, and run drills if needed.
By the end of the season, junior players show improved dribbling skills, passing strategies, and kicking techniques. Junior Division players also begin to understand the roles of offense and defense, and apply that knowledge to their game.
Awards Each player will receive an i9 Sportsmanship Award during the season. These awards are given to a few players each week for demonstrating the "sportsmanship value" for that week (all players will receive one by the end of the season). In addition to the Sportsmanship Award, all players will receive a super cool, end of the season "Personalized, Sport Specific i9 Medal."
All coaches are i9 Sports Certified and undergo a background check.
Coaching is both rewarding and fun! If you are interested in learning more about coaching with i9 Sports, please visit the “Become A Coach” page of the website or sign up during the registration process. We provide weekly, age-appropriate practice plans to make sure the coaching experience is organized, fun, and stress-free!And, of course, volunteer coaches always have an experienced i9 Sports staff member nearby for support, if needed, during practices or game time.
There will be an i9 Sports Site Manager as well as an i9 Sports Soccer Coordinator on site to assist in programming details and provide support to players, coaches, and parents. These staff members undergo a background check. This is unique to most other leagues. Our instructors come to every practice/game with a great deal of knowledge; not just about sports, but about kids and know exactly the right strategy, drill, and/or technique to motivate any player.
i9 Sports Families
It is the essence of the i9 Sports Experience to have families attend practice and games to cheer on their athlete(s). We encourage at least one parent or guardian to join in all game day activities as a spectator, motivator and role model. Let's work together to put the "fun" back into youth sports!
